Copyright?[edit]

Sorry to bother if I am wrong, but as Op. 51 was composed in 1928, isn't the music itself still considered copyrighted, at least in the United States? (As Medtner died in 1951, I thought the European Union would also have restrictions.)

Again, please forgive my alarm if I am mistaken. 152.3.175.242 (talk) 21:07, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I took the copyright information from here: [1] and it says it is in public domain in Russia and the USA, which I'm fairly certain it abides by the wiki PD policies. It is still under copyright in the EU, however I don't think it is a major issue as of now. I'll read up on it though just in case. Deadleg (talk) 00:05, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Russian copyright laws have changed since to be in line with those of the EU, I believe, and claiming it is your own work doesn't go/isn't on/whatever- the Lilypond file is your work, but that's not the only question at hand. Much inclined to nominate this for deletion. Schissel | Sound the Note! 16:13, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It no longer says anything about being public domain in the US, and indeed the threshold (as noted elsewhere on IMSLP) is 1922/3 or so for first publication; this was first published after 1923 or so. So, submitting for deletion. Schissel | Sound the Note! 14:59, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
