Your not essentially wrong, but there is some confussion. The workers are asexual meaning they have no known desire or interest in reproduction but technically they are born female from a fertilised egg, just they are sexually immature. Any one of the workers at birth could theoretically be the queen but only if she is fed a special feed called royal jelly by workers. In a bee colony the workers are female, drones actually refer to the males. Males come about from the unfertilised eggs (what causes the queen to lay unfertilised eggs is not really known) they don't have a sting but they have bigger eyes (this is because the stinger is a modified oviposter which is an organ only female insects posses. Apart from mating the males have no real purpose, they don't even seem to collect nectar for the hive. Hope this answers your question. WikipedianProlific^(Talk) 12:41, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
