Summary

Description
English: Ye Olde Murenger House The building is dated at 1541 and is a Grade II Listed Building, possibly the town house of the first High Sheriff of Monmouthshire, Sir Charles Herbert. There is some uncertainty as to whether this was ever the house of a Murenger or just given the name in the 19th century. The Murenger was the official responsible for collecting and administering the duties on merchandise entering and leaving the town. The façade has changed over the years as it has undergone extensive repairs.
