Summary

Description Lot 9431-6: Plastic Plane – Stronger Than Steel, circa 1942. This Timm S-160, 90 percent of it wood and plastic glue, is undergoing tests at a U.S. Naval Air Station preparatory to being put into mass production as a U.S. Navy training plane. The sleek, plastic-plywood plane, called “Aeromold” is said to be “stronger than steel.” Plastic glue, which impregnates the wood, prevents warping and buckling, while plastic construction, since it does not necessitate riveting or overlapping of plates, reduces air “drag.” Office of War Information photograph.
