Summary

Description
English: Three banks, Queen Street, Morley. Despite being so near to leeds, Morley was evidently an important place in the late 19C. These three bank buildings are opposite the Town Hall and are listed Grade II, as a group. For once, the architects have kept to the same height for the top of the third storey. On the left, the National Westminster Bank is faced by ashlar, with polished granite dressings. The central oriel window to the first floor has carved shields under the window. The Midland Bank (now HSBC) is also faced with ashlar, and has an asymmetrical façade, with the upper floor windows following the spacing of the archway, door and windows of the ground floor. The door has an elaborate pediment. The right-hand bay has windows at different levels, possibly to light a staircase. Barclays Bank was built as a Co-operative store c1898 with C20 alterations to the ground floor. The upper floors are faced with ashlar. At the top of the Albion Street frontage, to the right, is a pediment with the carved motto "LABOUR AND WAIT".
