Summary

Description
English: The Coronation Channel, Spalding. Looking from the east bank towards the old railway bridge. This wide waterway links with the tidal part of the River Welland at 188936 and 188932 and to the non-tidal part of the river at Clay Lake in TF2421 forming a vital flood defence for the town and the surrounding countryside. It was opened in 1953 after the devastating floods of 1947. The houses on the opposite side of the Channel are on Birch Grove, a fairly new housing development built on the once flood risk area on the edge of Spalding.
