English: Major-General Stringer Lawrence (1697-1775), the first Commander-in-Chief, India. Engraving of portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792), location of original unknown, published 1 January 1795 by Ezekiel Abraham Ezekiel. The armorial at the bottom is that of Lawrence's friend Sir Robert Palk, 1st Baronet: Sable, an eagle displayed argent beaked and legged or a bordure engrailed of the second. 22 7/8 in. x 14 3/4 in.
