Summary

Description Former St Mary's Convent (now Emmaus Centre), Manor Road, Portslade, City of Brighton and Hove, England. This Grade II-listed building was originally a manor house and has been dated to 1807. It became a convent in 1904 (not 1933 as per the National Heritage List for England listing) when it was acquired by the Poor Servants of the Mother of God, a Roman Catholic order; they extended the building and built the small chapel in 1933. The convent closed in 1996 and was bought the following year by the Emmaus charity, which was founded by Catholic priest and friar w:Abbé Pierre. The small chapel is now known as Emmaus Chapel
