Description
English: "Fabienne Sturm of the Musée de l'horlogerie, Geneva, and her colleague Hans Boeckh (1995) accept the attribution of this miniature to Petitot and identify the sitter as the marquise de Sévigné. Marie de Rabutin-Chantal (1626–1696) married Henri de Sévigné in 1644 but was widowed in 1651. Well educated and a gifted correspondent, she is famous particularly for the letters she wrote from Paris in the 1670s to her daughter Françoise, comtesse de Grignan." [1]
