Medieval: Coin Weight: Irish 8 Pennyweight
Description
English: A complete post medieval copper alloy Irish coinweight otherwise known as a 'Half Peru Piece' dating to 1683. The obverse bears the crown and harp of Ireland and reads 'THE STANDARD OF IRELAND'. The reverse bears the 'ACCORDING TO AUTHORITY', VII D, 26g GF number eight. The coinweight had a value of 8 pennyweight and 12 pence. The weight was made by Henry Paris and John Cuthbeard of the city of Dublin in 1683.
