Summary

Description
English: The main altar by Lucas Faydherbe in Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Leliëndaalkerk is 10 m high. Only the lower part is in marble, the other pieces are in wood and painted white.

The painting is by Jan Willem Rosier (1858-1931). The Virgin Mary is adored by three jesuit saints: Stanislas Kostka, Jan Berchmans and Aloysius Gonzaga. On the wings one sees the founder of the jesuits Ignatius of Loyola (left) and Francis Xaverius (right).

The wooden coronation of the altar, The Assumption of the Virgin, was made by nl:Artus Quellinus de JongeArtus Quellinus de Jonge.

Nederlands: Het hoofdaltaar van bouwmeester Lucas Faydherbe in de Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Leliëndaal is tien meter hoog. Alleen de onderbouw is uit marmer gehouwen. De rest is uit hout gesneden en met marmerimitatie beschilderd.

Het schilderij is een werk van Jan Willem Rosier (1858-1931). Maria wordt op het middenpaneel vereerd door de drie jeugdheiligen van de jezuïeten: Stanislas Kostka, Jan Berchmans en Aloysius Gonzaga. Op de zijluiken zijn links de ordestichter Ignatius van Loyola afgebeeld en rechts zijn vriend, tijd- en landgenoot Franciscus Xaverius.

De houten bekroning van het altaar, de Tenhemelopneming van Maria, werd aan Artus Quellinus de Jonge toegewezen.
