| Description | El matapalo o higuerote es el nombre que recibe en Venezuela un árbol corpulento del género Ficus (Ficus elastica) que presenta grandes contrafuertes en el tronco, los cuales se apoyan en raíces superficiales muy largas y gruesas. Su nombre obedece a que necesita mucha luz pero nace en la selva intertropical en cuyo suelo la luminosidad es muy escasa, por lo que crece rápidamente como una planta trepadora apoyándose en cualquier árbol hasta alcanzar la luz.
