Summary

Description Dr. Leslie Ungerleider, #NIMH, studies how the brain processes visual information. She co-discovered that two pathways are at work when you look at something. One pathway recognizes what you are looking at, and the other pathway locates where the object is in space; neuroscientists call these the “what and where” pathways. Ungerleider was elected to the National Academy of Sciences, in 2000.
