Description
English: A large group of hobnails from a site that has given up many Roman coins, pottery and two Brooches. c. 43 - 410 AD. The nails are hand wrought with square shanks with hemispherical heads that are either domed or angled four sided pyramidal in form. There are 40 nails with an average length is 17mm. with the head diameter at around 8mm. Individually they weigh around the 1gm. but collectively, they weight 37.1gm. All are covered with ferrous oxide corrosion with a mottled dark brown patina.
