Description
English: An address of welcome to the Duke and Duchess of York in 1901, lamenting the death of Queen Victoria. Signed by Hone Heke, Wi Pere, E? or J? Carroll, Tame Parata, and H K Taiaroa. The whole image is in the form of a carved house, with fern leaves and a huia feather, and portraits of the Duke and Duchess above the lintel. Down the sides and along the bottom are panels of a decorative red and black pattern, and at the bottom corners are a portrait of a chief in feather cloak, and a scene within a pa showing a whare and carved poles.

Inscriptions: Inscribed - Recto - beneath image: (On label, mostly defaced): ... by the Maoris to Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York and Cornwall ......

Physical Description: Colour lithograph, 290 x 240 (irregular) on board, 410 x 305 mm.
Provenance: Purchased from Anah Dunsheath catalogue no 85, 1997, lot no. 331. Second copy in better condition donated by Ms Ann Anderson, Raumati Beach, in 2009.
