He was born in Surrey, England, and in 1909 moved to Canada; first Montreal then Vancouver. He served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Provincial Mining Association of British Columbia, Secretary of the Canadian Mining Institute and on staff of the Department of Mines in Ottawa. Lamb took up painting on his retirement c. 1942. He became an elected member of the Royal Photographic Society in 1920; admitted FRPS in 1921. Lamb was married to artist Vera Weatherbie (1909 - 1977); father of artist Molly Lamb Bobak (born 1922). Steffens-Colmer Studios was founded by Richard J Steffens, located in Vancouver and active c. 1937.
