Alchemical theories of matter were essential to the dream of transmutation. Among the most influential sources was the Summa perfectionis, ascribed to the Arab alchemist Abū Mūsā Jābir ibn-Hayyān (latinized as Geber). But the volume was in fact written in 13th-century Europe, probably by the Franciscan friar Paul of Taranto. |
