Description
English: Title page from Geberis philosophi perspicacissimi, summa perfectionis magisterii in sua natur ex bibliothecae Vaticanae exemplari undecunq : emendatissimo nuper edita, cum quorundam capitulorū, vasorum, et fornacum, in volumine aliàs mendosissimè impresso omissorum / libriq investigationis magisterii et testamenti eiusdem Geberis, ac Aurei triu verborum libelli et Avicennae summi medici et acutissimi philosophi mineralium additiõe castigatissima. Venetiis : Apud Petrum Schoeffer ... ; Brixiensem : Apud Dominum Ioannem Baptistam Pederz, 1542. Alchemical theories of matter were essential to the dream of transmutation. Among the most influential sources was the Summa perfectionis, ascribed to the Arab alchemist Abū Mūsā Jābir ibn-Hayyān (latinized as Geber). But the volume was in fact written in 13th-century Europe, probably by the Franciscan friar Paul of Taranto.
