峨山韶碩は、永光寺(ようこうじ)4世・総持寺(そうじじ)2世で明峰素哲(めいほうそてつ)と並ぶ瑩山紹瑾(けいざんじょうきん)門下の双璧といわれる。 本像は像高106センチメートル、寄木(よせぎ)造り、玉眼嵌入(ぎょくがんかんにゅう)で、朱漆が施されている。面貌は徹底した写実にもとづく個性的な風格を見事に表現している。

膝前衣背面に、貞治5年(1366)の造像であることが読みとれる銘が認められ、南北朝時代の作であることがわかる。伝燈院(でんとういん)祖堂に安置。
English: Wooden statue of Gasan Jōseki held at the temple Yōkōji in Ishikawa Prefecture. It is believed to have been made during the Northern and Southern Courts Period (1336-1392). It was designated an Ishikawa Prefecture Cultural Property in 1993.
