Summary

Description
English: A folded unipole antenna, a type of transmitting antenna used by AM radio stations which broadcast in the medium wave band. It consists of a tubular steel radio mast, with a "skirt" of six vertical conductive wires surrounding it, supported by standoff insulators, connected to the mast about halfway up. One side of the feedline that feeds electrical power to the mast from the transmitter is connected to the wires at the base of the mast, the other side to a ground system consisting of conductive wires buried in the ground radiating from a terminal next to the base of the mast. The base of the mast is electrically connected to the ground system. The advantage of this antenna is that the skirt wires match the impedance of the antenna to the transmission line without an elaborate impedance matching network, allowing the antenna to be fed power efficiently without reflecting power back down the transmission line.
