Edward Abnel Keli'iahonui "Dudie" Kawānanakoa II (1924–97), member of the royal family of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Direct descendant of King Kaumualiʻi wearing the feather mahiole and ʻahuʻula of his ancestor. The background is Nāhiʻenaʻena's Paʻū. Dated to 1947[1]

Photograph by Edward D. Adams.

Wearing the feather cape and helmet of Kaumualii. Oahu s last great king, is Edward Kawananakoa, a direct descendant of the ruler. The cape and helmet are now in the collection of the Bishop Museum and are among the most precious relics of the ancient Hawaiian feather art. The background is part of a feather pa-u, or riding skirt, that belonged to Princess Nahienaena and is another treasure in the Bishop Museum collection.
