Title
Cruciform brooch
Description
English: Cast copper alloy cruciform brooch dating to the Early Medieval period. The object has a flat trapezoid head-plate with square wings. The object has integral top and side-knobs which are damaged. The bow arches out from the head before tapering towards the foot. The foot is incomplete. The head-plate is decorated with a punched ring-and-dot which is slightly off-centre. At the base of the bow are two transverse ridge and grooves. Just above the foot are three more transverse grooves. On the rear of the object the pin is missing and a lump of iron corrosion remains behind the head. The catchplate is small and incomplete. The object has a mid-green patina and has been tinned. Similar examples can be found in MacGregor and Bolick, (1993), p97.
