Description

Joseph Ostler, aka C. Frusher Howard, FSSc (fl.1874-1890s), who wrote Howard’s California Calculator, The Newest, Quickest and Most Complete Instructor for All Who Desire to be Quick at Figures (San Francisco, 1874). He is wearing the gown and hood signifying his fellowship of the Society of Science, Letters and Art, London.
