A Estação foi criada pelo Decreto Estadual nº 26.718/87, localizada nos municípios de Gália e Alvinlândia, trata-se de significativa amostra de remanescentes da floresta latifoliada e é uma das únicas unidades que abriga o mico-leão-preto, um dos primatas mais ameaçado de extinção no mundo.
