Description
English: Burnside Bridge Sycamore, Southwest of Burnside Bridge, Historic Burnside Bridge Road, Sharpsburg, Washington County, MD. The Burnside Bridge American Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) in the Antietam National Battlefield is significant because of its survival, size, and historical association with the 1862 Battle of Antietam, as illustrated by Civil War photographer Alexander Gardner in his battlefield photographs.
