DescriptionBarkston Station site with train 1864352 0cd2fc64.jpg
English: Site of Barkston Station, with train.
View southward, towards Grantham and London; ex-GNR East Coast Main Line, King's Cross - Doncaster etc. The train, which is a Down fast freight consisting of just 3 - 4 cattle wagons hauled by a Class B1 4-6-0, is passing the site of the Down Main platform: there was a separate Down platform for branch trains beyond the junction for the Lincoln/Sleaford line, which was/is immediately behind the photographer -- note the '15' speed-limit sign for branching trains; the Up platform was not opposite the Down one but nearer Grantham (behind the engine). This station was closed to passengers on 16/3/55, to goods on 6/7/64.
