1. There is no free equivalent. The image shows an installation of a mural on a curved wall which was cut into sections and stolen (2005), and has not been recovered (2011). 2. Commercial opportunities n/a, image is very low res 3. Previously published with permission of the artist, who is also presumably the photographer, in Honolulu Star-Bulletin in 2005. The artist is deceased. 4. Description of work in encyclopedia article about the artist not fully adequate to convey the complex historical content of the work 5. Image provides only possible illustration for educational understanding and for public service purposes. It can be reported in case anyone ever sees the stolen painting or a portion of it. 6. Only intended for use in "Herb Kawainui Kāne" entry where the painting is discussed.

It is believed that the use of this image may qualify as non-free use under the Copyright law of the United States. Rationale for not deleting[edit]

A bot has identified this image for speedy deletion, the reason being given that it is not used in any article. Only one week's warning has been given and as a primary author or this article and the uploader of the image I object to the action of speedy deletion. There is a lot of restoration to be done with this article, which I have not recently reviewed, and a week is not sufficient time to work it into my schedule. I appeal the bot's decision and will attempt to revert the edit which removed the image, which is discussed at some length in the article. In any case, this image's preservation is important as it is the only representation of a stolen artwork. Stolen works must be publicized as widely as possible to prevent their sale or inadvertent destruction and to facilitate their return to rightful owners. There are no apparent issues with the Fair Use, and great social good is served by maintaining the image. A week is simply far too little time to ask for repair and restoration.
